Mondim de Basto invites you to explore its rich architectural and cultural heritage, from Roman bridges such as Cabresto, Ermelo and Cabril, to the Romanesque Mother Church, as well as the route of the chapels of Senhor, Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Senhora da Ponte and São Sebastião, alongside manor houses and noble residences such as Casa do Eirô (18th century) and Solar dos Azevedos (17th century), and the traditional camellia gardens.

The region’s most iconic landmark is Monte da Senhora da Graça, at around 1,000 metres of altitude, where the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Graça stands, a place of pilgrimage since the 16th century. The panoramic views stretch over Mondim de Basto, Terras de Bastos, the Alvão Mountains and the neighbouring Marão Range.

The Viewpoints Route offers a circular trail with ten stops along the EN304, ideal for admiring the natural beauty of the region.

Local gastronomy stands out for the quality of agricultural and livestock products, such as homemade cured sausages, Posta Maronesa steak and roasted kid goat with oven-baked rice. Regional restaurants complete the experience with traditional sweets, such as moist sponge cake.

Visits to wine estates confirm the excellence of the region for producing aromatic and refreshing Vinho Verde wines from the Basto Sub-Region.

The natural heritage is another highlight of Mondim de Basto. From the Tâmega valley, with Minho influence, to the mountains of Alvão and Marão, the region combines fields, vineyards, manor houses and villages among the clouds. The Alvão Natural Park, just over 15 minutes from the centre, offers more than 40 km of water channels and trails, river beaches and the impressive Fisgas do Ermelo waterfall.

For cycling enthusiasts, Mondim de Basto offers over 150 km of mountain bike trails, with different levels of difficulty, as well as the Tâmega Ecotrail, a 39 km route between Amarante and Arco de Baúlhe, featuring cycle paths, dirt tracks, old stations, bridges, a 150-metre tunnel and landscapes combining forest and farmland along the Tâmega River.
